Slicers
General Description: Slicers are responsible for precision slicing of meat cuts according to specifications.
Typical Duties:
- Operating slicing machines or manually slicing meat
- Ensuring portion control and consistency in thickness
- Inspecting meat quality before slicing
- Cleaning and maintaining slicing equipment
- Packing sliced meat for distribution
Skills/Requirements:
- Prior experience in slicing (preferred)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of different meat cuts
- Ability to follow hygiene and safety procedures
Boners
General Description: Boners remove bones from meat cuts using knives or other tools, ensuring maximum yield and minimal waste.
Typical Duties:
- Using knives to debone various types of meat (beef, lamb, pork, etc.)
- Trimming excess fat and tissues
- Sorting and grading boned meat
- Maintaining tools and equipment
- Adhering to safety protocols and hygiene standards
Skills/Requirements:
- Skilled knife handling
- Experience in boning or similar meat processing roles
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Understanding of meat anatomy and yield optimization
Slaughtermen
General Description: Slaughtermen are involved in the humane killing of livestock and the initial stages of meat processing.
Typical Duties:
- Stunning, bleeding, and eviscerating animals
- Skinning and preparing carcasses
- Inspecting animals and carcasses for quality
- Working with knives and tools in high-speed environments
- Cleaning and maintaining slaughter floor areas
Skills/Requirements:
- Prior slaughterhouse or abattoir experience (essential for most roles)
- Knowledge of animal welfare and slaughter regulations
- Strong physical fitness and ability to work under pressure
- Licenses or certifications (e.g., Certificate II or III in Meat Processing) may be required
